Donald Hustad
Donald Paul Hustad was born in Sioux Agency, Yellow Medicine Co., Minnesota. He attended John Fletcher College, then went on to Northwestern University for his M.Mus and D.Mus degrees. He also became an Associate of the American Guild of Organists (AAGO) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists (FRCO), London. He was organist for the Billy Graham Crusade from 1961 to 1967. He taught at Olivet Nazarene University and at Moody Bible Institute where he served as director of the Sacred Music Department for thirteen years. Hustad is Senior Professor of Church Music at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he has taught organ, church music philosphy and worship. An accomplished organist, he has appeared in a variety of recitals and concerts.
In 1950 Hustad became a part time editor for Hope Publishing Company, where he remained for 50 years. He directed or edited six major hymnals published by this company. The Worshiping Church: A Hymnal, which he edited in 1990, is widely used. Also during this time, 50 of his choral works were published. Recent publications include Jubilate II: Church Music in Worship and Renewal (1993), True Worship: Reclaiming the Wonder & Majesty (1998) and Favorite Organ Hymns, The Concert Version.
